Slate Sand - Medium/Coarse

Buckingham slate is quarried in Buckingham County, Virginia, in the town of Arvonia. This natural stone has a distinct gray/blue/black color and glistens due to its mica content.
Buckingham slate sand is the finest form of our signature slate chippings. The sand mimics real sand, working nicely as a surface dressing in finer-textured and natural look. The L-Series sand also works as a soil additive, helping to improve drainage and aeration in clay or compacted soils.
Slate is a metamorphic rock that is primarily made up of quartz, illite, and chlorite, which can account for up to 95% of its composition. Other minerals that are often present in slate include hematite, magnetite, pyrite, and biotite.
