Sun Oxidized Linseed Oil
Ottosson Färgmakeri Swedish Cold Pressed Sun Oxidized Linseed Oil
Solar oxidized linseed oil is produced by pouring raw linseed oil into large containers outdoors and allowing it to stand there under the influence of sunlight and the oxygen in the air. The sun oxidized linseed oil is stored in glass bottles.
This process lasts for a long time, 3-4 months, after which the linseed oil bleaches and thickens through oxidation. This method is the old way of producing "Linseed oil" and cannot be compared to modern production of flaxseed oil. Sun-oxidized linseed oil is a product used in art painting and older craft painting and is mentioned in texts from the 17th century. This oil has very good drying and gloss properties with good resistance to UV light.
Applications
- Used as a medium for artist oil paints to improve the dryness and gloss of the paint
- Sun oxidized linseed oil can also be used as an additive to Ottosson linseed oil paints in the final ironing. We recommend it for the darker color shades, which get a beautiful deep shine. Add approx. 10 – 15% by volume to the colour.
ATTENTION! If you add sun oxidized linseed oil to white and light gray shades, the color can thicken.
